Brian Grella has a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry, but he's spent some time studying woodworking as well. He's built some beautiful furniture, much of it in the Arts and Crafts style, in his garage-based shop ("Cars Live Outside!" he proudly announces on his Web site). He has also made a short video tour of his shop.
Brian's shop covers his entire two-car garage. It contains a high-priced pro-level bandsaw and table saw, two critical tools in a woodworker's arsenal, but the shop also features some low-cost, shop-built items, including the router table, pegboard tool storage, work surfaces and lumber storage rack.
There's plenty for a small-scale, strictly DIY-level woodworker to learn at Brian's site. For those thinking they might like to get a little more serious about the work, though, he has a particularly sound piece of advice: "One of the most important things that I have learned over the few years I have been making sawdust, is that you DON'T need the most expensive tools to make beautiful furniture!"
