You will need:
- Self-adhesive fiberglass mesh tape (or a repair patch of the same material)
- Joint compound
- Taping knife
- Sandpaper
- Primer and paint
What to do:
- Cut several pieces of mesh tape and attach them in a crisscross fashion across the hole, as shown in the photograph.
- With the taping knife, apply joint compound over the tape. Carefully work the compound into the mesh. Spread compound several inches beyond the hole, feathering it at the edges.
- Allow this coat to dry thoroughly, then give it a light sanding.
- Apply a second coat of compound, feathering it out about a foot beyond the hole.
- Let the compound dry, then sand it again. The repair is now ready to be primed and painted.
